The Chamber's role in the Economic Strategy

As part of our role as the voice of business in Halifax, the Chamber has played a key role in the development of Halifax's Economic Strategy. Recommendations from the Economic Summit in 2004 formed the starting point for the strategy.

The Chamber sees its role in strategy delivery as pivotal- our aim is to see the strategy remain front and centre guiding and directing plans and actions in our city in such a way as to promote economic growth.

While the Halifax Regional Municipality owns the strategy, many organizations and all three levels of government are involved in its implementation. The Chamber plays an important role in the ongoing process and, in February 2006, the Chamber outlined that role for the city and the Greater Halifax Partnership.

Each year the Chamber provides an independent and objective evaluation of the work being done to reach the goals of the economic strategy. We have committed to an annual public event to help keep the strategy top of mind. We have also designed a scorecard to measure how we are progressing.

The Chamber wants to shine a light on the strategy so we can, as a community, move forward with implementation and recieve full benefits of well-planned growth for Halifax.
